As we are cruising down the Li River, we can see an interesting custom of inhabitant, which has been heritage for hundreds of years and becomes a hot topic for tourist. The fishermen, who live near by the Li River, have an ancient art to fishing. Riding on a small bamboo raft, they use cormorant birds, which were well-trained, to catch the fish and return them to the basket. (In the photo above: The woman on the raft with the bird)
The bird's throat is bound by a rope to keep the bird from swallowing the fish. When the birds dive into the water and find fish, they eat a fish, but then can't swallow the big fish because of the neckband. Then, the fisherman pulls the fish from the bird's throat and drops it into that basket. On the other hand, the birds can eat and swallow the small ones. If we want to try the fishes, which are caught by the birds, we are allowed to order a plate of fried fish (30 RMB for about 8 - 10 fishes).
Nighttime is my favourite time to stroll through the town, because the viewing offers the excitement of the lights from shops, restaurants and cafes.

But the most amazing thing for me at that time was the karst hills surrounded the town. The stunning karst hills were illuminated by colourful lights. These lights created the dramatic effect and make Yangshuo so wonderful. Wherever I turned my eyes, I saw the gorgeous karst hills as the background of the town.

For the shopping-lovers, there is a street, called West Street, which is closed to traffic, and becomes a shopping street. Not only shops, but also street vendors offering food, drinks, clothing, and unique souvenirs. It's really a shopping paradise for the tourists.

In West Street I found a man, who sold unique pens. Each pen had cute character head, which was made from clay. I think, he offered more than 100 characters. I bought them as souvenirs for Circus Giraffe's customers. As usual, they simply need to spend a minimum of (IDR) Rp 250.000,-.
